Abstract
Reading is one of the most important endeavors in human life. This study at its core sought to examine the deli
cate relationship between a firm and established reading culture and academic performance in English with the
objective of finding out how schools in Rarieda Sub-County, Siaya County have endeavored to put up a wide
range of materials and policies that inspire reading culture. A descriptive survey research design was adopted.
The sample of the study constituted 240 secondary school students randomly selected from 15 schools across
the sub-county. The study employed questionnaire to gather the data. It was found that students recognized the
value of reading. It is recommended that school administrators need to improve library facilities and services.
